Helping people secure home, business and vehicle is our business, but lifestyle habits are a big part of safety. Many people shrug their shoulders with the comment, "if they want in, they'll get in," and don't take any measures to inhibit entry and theft.
It is easy to forget that it is not only possessions at stake, but lives. Unsecured firearms, chemicals, prescription drugs, vehicles...all these things, once stolen, could cause harm in someone's unwritten story.
Personal regret can be avoided by taking simple steps to purchase safes, locking cabinets and installing basic surveillance with alarms that deter intrusion. Even though times are tight financially, some precaution is better than none and there are affordable options. I hope we can all desire to live above regret and take precautions even if it is unnerving to admit property crime has increased.
We were reminded of all this upon reading a recent article (pictured) in our local Pipestone Flyer. (You can read the full article in the Thursday paper, Millet residents.) It will be available online at the link below sometime this weekend as well.
